On my 44th birthday I went for dinner all alone to the Petit Fer à Cheval in 30, rue Vieille du Temple, Paris. I ordered a Steak Tartare (raw meat) with french fries and a Choco Mousse for desert. Finished off with one or maybe two Cointreau's at the bar and left. Strolled down the streets in the district and ended up in the Pont Marie subway station on the way home. Maybe that's where they had this sign up for I don't know what.
I swore I would never be 45, a vow I more or less already made when I was a little boy, but never managed to fulfill since....

From oct 1988 till may 1989 I worked as a busdriver in Antwerp. One day artist Bernd Lohaus stepped onto the bus, going to Hoevenen/Stabroek. He was completely flabbergasted to see me in the driver's seat and afterwards told me he thought it was a performance piece.

The reclining Buddha represents Shakyamuni Buddha (the historical Buddha) at his death. It is said that the Buddha knew death was approaching, and asked his disciples to prepare a couch for him in a grove. He lay there, reclining on his right side, facing west, with his head supported by his hand, as he passed into nirvana.

It's a condition called Trigeminal Neuralgia, or TN. It used to be called "Tic Douloureux". It's a disorder of the trigeminal nerve, responsible for sensations between the jaw and the forehead, and it causes sudden, intense facial pain.
Some say it's the worst pain known to man. In fact, the disease has an awful nickname: "the Suicide Disease."
There is no cure for Trigeminal Neuralgia, but it can be treated with anticonvulsants such as carbamazepine (Tegretol), phenytoin, or gabapentin (Neurontin).
