Q: Why do people lose their shoes in an accident?
A: When a vehicle hits a pedestrian, 8 times out of 10 the shoes will be left at the point of impact. During impact the friction between the shoes and the pavement is actually greater than that between the foot and the shoe, even though the shoes are tied tight. That is why the shoes can show where the point of impact was.
